Team Riptide

There is one rule at Riptide Watersports…HAVE FUN. Riptide’s focus is, and will always be, on the guests that allow us to enjoy the outdoors with them.

Employees find it weird for our team motto to be “we’ll figure it out” however it encompasses every belief Toby founded Riptide on. The business model is simple…we figure out what the guests want and need and make it happen. We believe in making memories and we will figure out what it takes to make an impression. Whether you are a first time visitor or a local we want you to take more than a sunburn and salty hair when you leave one of our kayak, stand up paddle board, bike or boating tours. We want you to take memories of Amelia Island and sore abs from the laughs along the way.

If you think you can handle our one rule then book a tour. Don’t worry about the details…. “we’ll figure it out” …it is what we do.

The Team

You are only as strong as your weakest link and a company is only as strong as the people it employees. Riptide’s success is greatly contributed to the team and their enthusiasm towards the outdoors. Riptide is not just their job, they have made it their lifestyle.

Amelia Island Team Riptide 1Toby Brown – Owner

The love for outdoors has taken Toby on crazy tour. The Georgia native has a passion for helping others enjoy life. The previous Health and PE teacher turned small business owner began his outdoor recreation career at The Ritz-Carlton, Reynolds Plantation. His entrepreneurship soon took over and lead Toby and his family to Amelia Island. Florida’s coastline was the perfect backdrop for Toby’s vision and that vision would soon be named Riptide. His passion to make everyone around him better can be appreciated not only by the guests but the employees as well. When not answering phones or on the water, Toby enjoys traveling with his wife (Ashleigh) and two daughters (Faith and Baylee).

Kyle – Director of Tours/ USCG Certified Captain

Born and raised right here in Fernandina Beach, with 10 years on the team, Kyle brings a calm, knowledgeable presence to every day on the water. As a certified captain and Florida Master Naturalist, he has a deep appreciation for the natural side of our waterways—especially the wildlife. If there are birds around, chances are Kyle’s already spotted them.

When he’s not leading boat tours (his favorite way to explore), Kyle enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and kids, gardening, and soaking up nature whenever he can. He loves working on the water and sharing the area’s unique ecosystem with guests who want to slow down and really take it all in.

Looking for a local recommendation? Kyle’s advice is simple: take some time to explore the rich history of the area—you’ll be glad you did.

Zach – Director of Rentals/ USCG Certified Captain

A Fernandina Beach local, Zach has been part of our crew for nearly 10 years and knows these waters like the back of his hand. As a certified captain and Florida Master Naturalist, he loves sharing his passion for nature while helping guests feel confident and relaxed out on the water.

When Zach’s not guiding tours or keeping rentals running smoothly, you’ll find him kayaking (his favorite!), boating, fishing, or hanging at the beach with his wife and kiddos. He’s all about being outdoors, meeting new people, and showing off some of the most beautiful spots around—especially Cumberland Island.

Off the clock, Zach enjoys working on cars and catching a game, but if you ask him for one local tip, he’ll tell you not to leave town without stopping by the Green Turtle.

 Kristi – Office Manager

A Fernandina Beach local and part of our team for five years, Kristi is all about great vibes, great conversations, and unforgettable days on the water. She loves getting to meet new guests every day and says the best part of her job is the amazing people she works with—both coworkers and visitors alike.

When she’s not helping guests plan their perfect adventure, Kristi is soaking up nature any chance she gets. Biking is her favorite way to explore the area, and you’ll often find her recommending the eBike ride out to Boneyard Beach for one of the best views around. Off the clock, she’s happiest kayaking, spending time with her grown kids, or sinking her toes into the sand.

Her local advice? Don’t miss a beach sunrise—and be sure to catch a sunset from the marina to end your day just right.
